The Integrated Academy of Mnagement and Technology, Ghaziabad, recently
concluded its sixth colourful annual festival - Spectrum '01', observed as
Founder's day. Spectrum'01' was marked by management and IT games,
quizzes, grafity and cartooning, indoor and outdoors sports and various
cultural programmes which revealed the multifarious facets of the
students of the institute.
Guru Tegh Bahadur Polytechnic Institute organised a festival on April 17.
Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilisers Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa was the
chief guest while MP Vijay Kr Malhotra and Justice Jaspal Singh were the
guests of honour. The students presented a cultural programme, comprising
shabad, giddha, mimcry, bhangra, play and many other music and dance
events. On the occasion the institute's Automobile Engg Dept and
Multimedia and Internet Lab were formally inaugurated by Dhindsa and
Justice Singh respectively.
The IMT, Ghaziabad organised a consulting symposium, 'Compass 2001' on
March 22 and 23 at FICCI convention hall. The event involved intense and
diverse interactions between business organisations, consultancies and
student managers. It tried to raise relevant issues in six sessions.
The mechanical and production engineering department of Delhi College of
Engineering (DCE) organised its annual nationwide technical meet, MACH,
from March 26-28. The meet showcased the technical knowhow of the students
through events like Epoch, Atelier, Envisage and Facet. There were
interactions between industry and students through a number of workshops
and talk sessions too. Thirty eight entries from 26 colleges across the
country participated in the three day meet.
ARSD college hosted its annual cultural festival 'Tide 2001' on March 22
and 23. Principal B L Arora inaugurated the fest. Events on the day one
included solo dance, group dance, antakshari followed by jam session. The
highlight of the day was the dramatic society's presentation, 'Bees saal
baad'. Artists Mica and Vipin Taneja performed to a packed crowd on a
concluding day.
The students of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication recently held
the journalism festival, Expose 2001. Inaugurating the festival Kuldeep
Nayyar stressed the need for objectivity in news reporting. A discussion
was organised on - 'The role of media in the era of globalisation' and
'Media and disaster management'. Contests in headline writting, interview,
poster making and debate were held.
The School of Information Technology at GGSIP University celebrated its
annual national IT meet, 'InfoXpression 2001' between March 1 and 3.
Inaugurated by Delhi finance minister Mahinder Singh Saathi, the meet
included a plethora of technical and cultural events. N Vijayaditya,
director general, National Informatics Centre was the guest of honour.
Rattan K Dutta, chairman of IT task force, IGNOU and K Subramanian, deputy
director general, National Informatics Centre delivered guest lectures on
contemporary subjects of ecommerce and its future. Delhi education
minister Narendra Nath graced the valedictory function. Events included
Info-Verve (technical paper presentation), Apex (Software projects),
Twilight Zone (Overnight Programming), Kruti (Website designing),
Amber-Ella (day programming), Blitzkrieg (extempore), Clipart (paper
collage), Q-Whiz (quiz), Maze (crossword) besides the usual dumb charades,
cartooning, IT talk, antakshari, creative writing and others.
The recently concluded three day festival of GGSIP university, 'Anugoonj
2001' elicited a favourable response. Kathak maestro Birju Maharaj and
noted painter Jatin Das were guests of honour on the inaugural day.
Arrayed with a superb madley of the contests for budding artists, cultural
connoiseurs and literary geniuses, the fest was a roaring
success.
Vivekananda Mahila collegehosted its annual intercollege cultural
festival, 'Pallavi' recently. Inaugurated by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila
Dikshit. The events included fete, jam session, solo and group dances,
dandia, quiz, antakshari and various competitions, like fancy dress,
rangoli etc.
Fun, 'masti' and 'hungama' were the buzz-words at Management Development
Institute (MDI) between January 19 and 21 as the Gurgaon based top ranking
B-school hosted its first ever national level inter-college
festival-'Zephyr-The Breeze'. Zehpyr started off with a talk by Shiv
Khera, the renowned motivational speaker and management guru. The talk was
follwed by a Indipop night where musical group Joshilay entertained the
the audience. The highlight of the seccond evening of the festival was the
fashion parade, 'Infusion'. The best team award went to ABS, Noida and the
runners up was the team from MAMC. To cap it all there was a pyrotechnics
and rock shows by
'Parikrama'.
The Zoology society of Miranda House hosted its two-day fest 'Torrent
2000' recently. The fest showcased a plethora of events. The highlight of
the first day was a debate on 'Internet is making us anti social' which
was won by a student from Hansraj college. Informals comprised of
Antakshari and a fun packed show 'Awesome Twosome' which got everyone's
grey cells ticking, the host college bagged the title. Events on the
concluding day comprised of a group discussion on the topic 'Young
Managers', a lecture on skin allergies by a practising dermatologist from
AIIMS and a bioscience quiz titled 'Cash your intelligence' on the lines
of KBC. On the spot events entailed model making, crossword and pot
decoration. The fest ended with a game show 'Guess the right price' on the
lines of popular game show 'Tol Mol Ke Bol'.
Maitreyi College celebrated its annual cultural fest 'Rhapsody 2000'
between December 20 and 22. Events included antakshari, rang manch
(one-act play competition), jigyasa (quiz), firing line (English debate),
shabdon ke teer (Hindi debate), extempore, street play, art contests
including painting, sketching, collage and cartooning, elocution, Sanskrit
shlokas recitation, self composed poetry contest, creative writing, Indian
and Western music and dance events, fashion show, jam session,
choreography and personality contest. An event titled 'Professional
Afternoon' gave students the opportunity to interact with model Richa
Sharma.
Business Economics Society of Ram Lal Anand College (E) organised its
annual academic festival Endeavour 2000 at Hetz Auditorium, YMCA. A
discussion on the topic 'Can India achieve nine percent growth?' was the
first event of the festival. Bibek Debroy, director, Rajiv Gandhi
Institute for Contemporary Studies and Arun Kumar, associate professor in
School of Economics, JNU, were the eminent speakers. This was followed by
a talk on 'Convergence of economics and management in education' was
delivered by C S Venkataratnam, dean, International Management Institute (IMI).
An inter-college extempore competition and a quiz competition were also
conducted.
Adwitya, the fine arts society of Miranda House hosted its fest 'Kalamanch'
on Decmber 11 and 12. Gauri Mehta, President, Adwitya informed that the
festival held only for the second time since the inception of the society,
attracted participation from over 100 students on both the days. Events
comprised of inter-college photography and digital creativity competitions
and on-the-spot fun contests like face painting, poster designing, collage
making, sketching, T-shirt painting, pot painting and amature costume and
jewellery designing. A pottery display-cum-workshop was also conducted as
a part of the fest. The highlight of the fest though was a talk and a
slide show by celebrity photographer Raghu Rai on the first day who also
judged the competition. While Sangeeta Kumari from the host college bagged
the first prize, Neha Agrawal of St. Stephen's and Tarini of KMC stood
second and third respectively.
Amity
Business School, NOIDA recently hosted its annual cultural festival -
Afreen 2000. Colleges from in and around Delhi participated in the two-day
fair. Events included the usual games and contests like dumb charades,
graffiti, arm-wrestling, face painting, admad, treasure hunt, music, dance
and choreography competition, antakshari and a mega 'Hallowene' dance
party. The fun events were interspersed with management games, corporate
quiz and case study analysis.
The
Economics Society of Hansraj College organised its annual Economics
festival, 'Ecorgy - 2000' recently. The festival showcased a plethora of
events - quiz, group discussion and the parliamentary form of debate
'Acropolis : The Student Parliament', JAM and street play amongst a host
of other activities. The inaugural seminar had a talk by Gurcharan Das on
his book 'India Unbound'. The judges of the street play Arvind Gaur, head
of Ashmita Theatre Group and Brajesh Sharma, associated with the Janathya
Manch gave tips to the budding actors. Another interesting seminar 'Why is
India poor?' conducted by Yazad Jal, Centre For Civil Society, busted
common myths regarding India's poverty in an interactive
session.
Indian
Institute of Planning and Management celebrated its annual inter-college
management festival 'Amaze - 2000' on November 2 and 3. A career fare
facilitating interaction between the students and the corporate world was
held on the first day. In return a brand festival providing companies an
opportunity to present their brands and carry out an on-the-spot market
research was hosted on the concluding day. Other event included debate,
antakshari, corporate quiz, jam session, face painting etc. The highlight
of the event was the personality contest where Rahul and Chhavi of IIPM
were crowned Mr and Miss Amaze respectively.
The
Zoological Society of Kirori Mal College organised its annual festival
'Ecdysis-2000' from November 7 to 9. The events comprised cultural and
health awareness pro9grammes including an audio-visual presentation on the
topic of 'Biology-the science of 21st century'; an environment and
wildlife quiz. The health awareness programme focussed on heart care. A
free heart check up camp - open for general public - and an interactive
session on Ischemic heart problems was organised.
The
Economics Association of Dayal Singh college hosted their annual event
'Ecowaves-2K' on October 19 and 20. Professor Sunanda Sen of JNU
enlightened the students on 'Globalisation and the developing countries'
while delivering the inaugural lecture. The paper presentation contest
during the event drew papers on contemporary issues like 'disinvestment :
a panacea for all the PSU's ills'; 'e-commerce and the emerging
landscape'; 'efficacy of RBI's intervention in the foreign exchange
market'; and 'Indo-US relations: prospects and perspectives'. An extempore
tested assimilative skills of the contestants. The concluding day
witnessed a debate on 'Resource allocations recommended by the Finance
Commission'.
